As a major step towards promoting environmental awareness and creating a more sustainable future in the Middle East, the International Trade Exhibition & Conference for Environmental Technologies, Sustainability and Clean Energy, “EcOrient 2012”, was launched during a press conference held at the Beirut Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture on July 15th 2011.

This event, the first of its kind and magnitude in Lebanon and the region, is organized by International Fairs & Promotions (IFP), in collaboration with the Paris Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCIP), from 5 to 8 June 2012 at BIEL.

Key speakers at the press conference included: Mr. Jean-Paul Vermes, First Vice Chairman of the CCIP; Mr. Gilles Dabezies, Manager Director of International Development at the Paris Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCIP); Mr. Albert Aoun, Chairman and CEO of IFP Group and Mr. Gaby Tamer, Vice President of the Beirut Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture. Several representatives from embassies and government agencies assisted at the conference together with private business owners and delegates from local and international NGOs.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Aoun said: “With this increased environmental awareness in the region, we are witnessing a growing demand for green and clean products across the board, from the construction and industry sectors, to home appliances, lighting, paints, water technology and alternative power. In this context, the International Trade Exhibition & Conference for Environmental Technologies, Sustainability and Clean Energy, “EcOrient 2012” will be strategically positioned to introduce clean and energy efficient technologies, products, services and solutions.”

“Recent environmental reforms in the Middle East and Gulf countries have paved the way for increased investment potential in green business and energy development. In the case of Lebanon, the country received a major grant from the European Union to implement energy audits, energy efficiency standards and labels, and net-metering throughout its territory. In parallel, Gulf countries are channeling more economic resources into sustainable urban planning projects” Mr. Aoun added.

The International Trade Exhibition & Conference for Environmental Technologies, Sustainability and Clean Energy, “EcOrient 2012” will coincide with Project Lebanon 2012, The 17th International Trade Exhibition for Construction and Environmental Technology, the premier destination for all professionals in the construction industry from Lebanon and the Middle East to learn about the latest trends in the industry, establish new contacts or renew existing partnerships and explore new business opportunities. Last year, 827 exhibiting companies from over 30 countries participated in the event gathered to showcase their latest products and services, attracting 25,000 visitors.

The conference will address crucial environmental issues in Lebanon and the region in order to devise solutions for a more sustainable future. Every day, the conference will host different sessions delivered by local and international speakers and experts representing major environment protection organizations, renewable energies providers, waste treatment/management companies, scientific and research facilities, educational institutions, government agencies, etc.

As for the exhibition, it will allow professionals involved in green technology and renewable energy industries to sample a wide range of showcased technologies, products and solutions from around the world for reducing CO2 emissions, minimizing and recycling waste, controlling water and air pollution. The exhibition will establish itself as the ideal platform for local and international companies to meet face-to-face with visionary leaders and decision-makers from Lebanon and the entire Middle East in order to promote and invest in the green technology global trend.

The International Trade Exhibition & Conference for Environmental Technologies, Sustainability and Clean Energy, “EcOrient 2012” will provide a unique opportunity for green businesses, government agencies, educational establishments and NGOs to acquire valuable tools and knowledge necessary for them to optimize their resources and their impact. Participants will also be able to meet their peers from around the world and explore future collaboration prospects with them towards a common goal.
