EarthCheck has been designed to meet the needs of the new carbon economy. It facilitates the independent calculation of Scopes one, two and three emissions.
The Program complies with the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) 14064 range of standards for greenhouse gas accounting.
EarthCheck is exclusively owned by EC3 Global, and trusted by market leaders such as InterContinental Hotels Group, Taj Hotels, Sandals, Lanham Hotels International, Banyan Tree, ACCOR.
A growing number of organisations are espousing their "green" or "eco" credentials. But when put to the test, few are willing to be independently audited by a qualified third party.
For consumers, this has resulted in confusion and at times, a lack of confidence when green washing claims are exposed. For industry, it represents lost business opportunity, as only those organisations willing to submit to scrutiny and transparency are being placed on the "preferred supplier" lists of large corporate and government entities.
The most common metric for asset owners and managers is bottom line performance that leads to year-on-year, growth. But how can a business determine the extent of its success or failure compared to its competitors unless a benchmark has first been established?
Over the past decade, EarthCheck has been collecting information about the operational performance of travel and tourism organsations in globally. This has resulted in the determination of Baseline and Best Practice levels that determine where room for improvement remains.
The EarthCheck Program was developed by the Australian government-funded Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC).
EarthCheck has previously used to underpin brands such as Green Globe, through its wholly owned subsidiary Green Globe Asia Pacific, which still has an exclusive license to certify under the Green Globe brand.
Today, the EarthCheck Program is a standalone product, independent of Green Globe, and is the largest environmental management system in use by the travel and tourism industry for the benchmarking and certification of their operational practices.
