Dubai is set to host The World Green Economy Summit, WGES, on April 15th and 16th. Held under the theme "Global Partnerships for Sustainable Future", the summit will see the participation of prominent experts from energy, finance and business sectors, in addition to government leaders, international organisations and the private sector.
The summit aims to promote capacity building and highlight effective policies, legislation and new opportunities for leading businesses supporting the transition to a green economy Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the World Green Economy Summit and MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, highlighted the fact that the private sector plays a remarkable role in the transition into a green economy. He stressed the significance of forums which explore and build up new opportunities between thinkers and decision makers in both private and public sectors.
"The "Green Economy for Sustainable Development" initiative, launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has placed the U.A.E. among leading world countries in the green economy field. Hosting the World Green Economy Summit in Dubai enhances the position of the U.A.E. as a global hub for exporting and re-exporting green products and technologies and Dubai as global gateway of investment and green trade," he said.
Al Tayer expressed his pleasure that the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, FICCI, which represents more than 2 million private and public companies all over India, has extended its support to the World Green Economy Summit.
The summit will be held in conjunction with the next session of Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition, WETEX 2014. Al Tayer invited the leaders and pioneers of the green economy in India to participate in the summit which will provide real and sustainable solutions emphasising the importance of collaboration with partners having the expertise and a record of achievement to enhance the private sector contributions in the summit agenda.
V. Sibaba, FICCI's Chairman of Renewable Energy Sector, expressed his pleasure to support the World Green Economy Summit. He noted that FICCI facilitates business-to-business connections in the clean energy, environment and carbon market places and enables the Indian industry to integrate with the global mainstream.
Al Tayer announced in press conference held at the end of January that WGES 2014 will feature a number of partners along its strategic partnership with Dubai Green Economy Partnership and UNDP, including the International Renewable Energy Agency - IRENA, in addition to including numerous prominent international figures as keynote speakers at the event, including H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group and Helen Clark, Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and former Prime Minister of New Zealand.
